One of the most commonly used techniques in metal fabrication is press brake forming. In this article, we are going to discuss three types of press brake forming that are often used in metal fabrication.
Forming with Press Brakes
Press brakes are used all the time in metal fabrication, and there are numerous specific techniques that can be used with a press brakes machine.
- Offset Bending. An offset bend is when two opposing bends are utilized to create an offset in a particular part. These bends are typically defined by the height of the offset and can range from 1/16 of an inch to an inch and a half.
- Angular Bending. An angular bend has an angle between 0 and 180-degrees. Unlike offset bends, which are defined by their height – angular bends are defined by their inside radius.
- Hemming. Hems are 180-degree bends that are typically utilized to create a protective edge on an individual part.
Each one of these options has its own unique benefits and drawbacks. The specific techniques used in your project will be completely dependent on the specifics needs of your fabrication project. Talk with your metal fabricator to determine the best techniques to use for your project.
