Any metal fabrication project starts with some initial planning so the fabricator can get a good sense of the client’s needs. Oftentimes, the biggest question on the client’s mind is – “how much is this going to cost?” Providing accurate and detailed quotes prior to the start of a fabrication project is essential so there are no surprises throughout the process. In this article, we are going to walk through how we quote a metal fabrication project.
Initial Meeting
Everything begins with an initial meeting. During said meeting, the client sits down with a project manager and discusses the general scope and needs of the project. This will allow the fabricator to get a good sense of the overall costs and direction of the project. It’s important for the client to bring as much detailed information to this meeting as possible. The more specific you can be about your needs and desires, the more precise the quote will be.
Research
After this meeting, the project manager will do some research on what exactly this project will take. The PM will likely meet with other members of the fabrication team to discuss processes and timeline. Using that information they will be able to put together a quote for the project.
Moving Forward
If the quote provided looks good, then it’s time to move forward with the project and get started with the initial planning phase.
