OSHA recently released guidance on how to effectively protect manufacturing workers (including metal fabrication workers) from COVID-19. In this article, we are going to walk through some of these safety protocols that we are implementing in our facility to keep our workers safe.
Maintaining Social Distance on the Shop Floor
While OSHA has deemed the risk of manufacturing workers contracting COVID-19 in the workplace as low, it’s still important to make adjustments in the workspace. Maintaining social distance on the shop floor is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID in the workplace. Keeping employees at least six feet apart is essential and thankfully, pretty east to do on a shop floor.
Properly Sanitizing Workspaces
Workspaces need to be properly sanitized on a daily basis as well. Employees should wash their hands frequently and sanitize tools and workspaces after every use as a cautionary measure.
Protective Equipment
Metal fabrication workers are already used to wearing various protective equipment so it shouldn’t be too big of a jump to make sure that workers are wearing proper protective gear like masks and gloves to prevent the spread of the disease in the workplace.
